"He was increasingly anxious about his own standing in the mathematics profession, particularly in China, where, he worried, a younger scholar could try to supplant him as Chern’s heir."

(1) Who is the "younger scholar"?
(2) How did Nasar get to know that Yau "was increasingly anxious" about the "younger scholar"? Obviously someone told her about that. Then who told her about that?
(3) Just for sure, had Nasar interviewed with those PKU/UOB academians when she was in Beijing? I ask just because Nasar's conclusion was so much similar with what Ding claims in his blog.
